English, Hebrew, and Greek letter values
Try an example
Hebrew example: Nero Caesar
Using the Hebrew letters נרון קסר (Neron Qesar), which represent Nero Caesar, the numeric values of his name are:
| נ | Nun | 50 |
| ר | Resh | 200 |
| ו | Vav | 6 |
| ן | Final Nun | 50 |
| ק | Qof | 100 |
| ס | Samekh | 60 |
| ר | Resh | 200 |
| Total | 666 |
Greek example: Neuralink
Written in Greek letters as Νευραλινκ (Neuralink), the numeric values are:
| Ν | Nu | 50 |
| ε | Epsilon | 5 |
| υ | Upsilon | 400 |
| ρ | Rho | 100 |
| α | Alpha | 1 |
| λ | Lambda | 30 |
| ι | Iota | 10 |
| ν | Nu | 50 |
| κ | Kappa | 20 |
| Total | 666 |
50 + 5 + 400 + 100 + 1 + 30 + 10 + 50 + 20 = 666 in Greek isopsephy.
This is one Greek spelling of an English name. A different transliteration gives a different total.
Revelation 13:18, 600 + 60 + a mark
Empire / system
The mark
The Greek letters χξϛ total 666. The reading offered here is that 666 may not simply mean 600 + 60 + 6, but 600 + 60 + a mark. The letter ϛ is stigma, which is both a mark and a representation of the number 6 in an unseen form, like something implanted or under the skin.
This lines up with Revelation 13:17, that no one can buy or sell without the mark, the name, or the number of the Beast. It suggests a trifold allegiance system: political (600), religious (60), and physical or personal (the mark).
The case for 660: Chi Xi
This is the argument as taught here. When Revelation was written, the alphabet had no everyday letter for the number 6, because the old letter digamma had fallen out of use. On this reading, the phrase in Revelation 13:18 was χ ξ, 600 and 60, which is 660.
A sign for 6 was supplied afterward. Sigma and tau were joined into a ligature called stigma (ϛ), a cross of the two letters, and others brought digamma back into service for 6. Later manuscripts spelled the number out as three words, hex, hex, hex, for 666, which on this reading was not the original. The Textus Receptus, the received text, reads χ (the 22nd letter, 600), ξ (the 14th letter, 60), and the obsolete letter stigma.
This is an interpretive argument. Textual scholars read the manuscript evidence for 666 and 616 differently, so treat it as a reading, not a settled finding.
Historical evidence of 660: the 1933 census card
When the Nazis came to power, a census was taken in 1933 and tabulated by punch card. Dehomag used a 60-column card instead of the 45-column card. Each column carried the digits 0 to 9, which gives 60 columns and 600 punch positions, so 60 and 600 make 660.

Letter values
English Gematria counts A = 6, B = 12, C = 18, up to Z = 156 (each letter's place in the alphabet times 6). Greek uses traditional isopsephy, including stigma (6), qoppa (90), and sampi (900). Accents, vowel points, and punctuation are ignored.
